What is Bowen Therapy

Where it all began . . .

The Bowen Technique is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy, developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia. Bowen Technique offers tremendous benefit to clients with very gentle effort on the part of the practitioner.

There is no manipulation or deep pressure. It can provide relief for many types of injuries and other health problems, both acute, chronic, long-standing and new.

Bowen therapy is highly beneficial for everybody, from newborn babies to the elderly, athlete, gym and sports person.

PictureBowen therapy is showing some excellent results in helping even chronic complaints that have not been resolved by other therapies. The reason is because Bowen therapy stimulates a healing to the connective tissue in our bodies called "Fascia". The Fascia forms a whole-body continuous three-dimensional matrix of structural support. Fascia interpenetrates and surrounds all organs, muscles, bones and nerve fibres, creating a unique environment for body systems functioning.

When our bodies have been under stress, injured, dehydrated or all of the above, then our fascia loses it’s flexibility, the tissue fibres literally lose their fluidity. This snags the fascia, restricting its rubber band like flexibility, therefore causing our bodies to distort and become weaker and weaker over time.

PictureThere are frequent but very essential pauses throughout the session that allows the body time to respond and begin the healing process. The practitioner can target a specific problem or address the body as a whole. The technique addresses not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal organs. The body's integrated response improves circulation and lymphatic drainage and aids assimilation of nutrients and elimination of toxins.

PictureSome studies* have shown Bowen therapy significantly reduces anxiety, tension and fatigue.  Bowen therapy releases muscular tension and helps the body return to the ‘parasympathetic’ nervous system in which it can rest and heal itself.

Through gentle movements over muscles and nerves this will target the key areas to release tension and anxiety and help you get back to your best!
